Hi all thanks for the great advice so far but can ani1 help with the following:

I found a few lovely rocks on the beach with pink stream detail that I would like to enhance. I am sure that by polishing it, the detail will stand out but am unsure how to go about it.

I know smaller stones can be 'tumbled' but I suppose the ones I have are really rocks as they are larger than fist size.

Any advice will be great, thanks

Give them one or two thin coats of polyurethane varnish - then stand back and admire their beauty ! I have done this with lovely flat stones from Chesil beach in Portland.

Don't tell anyone 'cos it's illegal to remove bits of England !

Oh, forgot to add that you could spray them with clear cellulose lacquer. It's less messy - but have plenty of ventilation.
i use vaseline. deepens and makes colour richer but doesnt looklike varnish
