Reduction in hours

I work for a Local Authority and am contracted for 25 hours. For family reasons I wish to reduce my hours to 15. Am I being resonable in asking for this

Depends what you mean by reasonable, asking for it sure, demanding it no.

Letting you do it depends on what you do and how easy it would be for them to find somebody to make up the hours.

The Employment Act 2002 gives local authority workers the right to request a reduction in hours if they care for children under the age of 6 or disabled children under the age of 18. There are several reasons why your request could be turned down, your employer simply has to be clear about how their refusal is business related. Best to ask your personnel section for a copy of their policy.
