An Old Ring......

Not sure which topic to post this under but here goes.......I have just inherited my Grandmother's engagement ring......it is a 3 stone ring, two diamonds and a gorgeous square shaped emerald in the centre - approx. 110yrs old.

I have had it re-sized and cleaned and would like to wear it but I have been told that emeralds are a very fragile stone and to be careful with it.

Will it be safe to wear it the majority of the time or shall I just wear it for special occasions?

Thanks.

I wear an emerald ring all the time, even in the sea. I probably shouldn't but it hasn't come to any harm. As this is so precious I just wouldn't wear it too much in water, I think they are supposed to be slightly porous rather fragile.
Personally I don't believe in saving things for 'best' so I'd wear it most of the time and get the pleasure of it regardless.
I wear an antique emerald ring 24/7 ..
I sounds very pretty. enjoy wearing it,
Here is an article which may be of use....it includes how to care for emeralds

Thanks everyone! The ring is so pretty I want to wear it all the time! I guess if its been around for over 100yrs the emerald can't be too fragile!
yel. do you have a picture ?

Yes, but not sure how I put it on here!
Coloured stones are a bit 'softer' than diamonds but unless your jeweller said there was something wrong with the setting, the clasps, which surely they would have done when working on it, wear it. At that age, it is likely to be a nice stone; a lot of emeralds you get which are later have been treated with oil and/or heat treated to hide defects in the stone and its colour.
