Thing 2 has been having speech therapy for 3 1/2 years since he was 2 years old (he has a severe speech impairment). He has speech therapy everyday and has a teaching assistant to help him. However, because he has to think so carefully about making the sounds to speak he has now got a flipping lisp. He will now have to have additional speech therapy to sort out the lisp caused by his speech therapy! (Not the end of the world, but he has been making brilliant progress.)

Can speech therapy cause a lisp? Hopefully they'll be just as effective at treating that, as they have so far. It does sound fairly intensive!
Golly. Talk about one thing after another.

Don't these things normally just sort themselves out as they grow older?

His speech used to be absolutely terrible. Until a year ago I was the only one (including his dad and siblings) who could understand him. He would leave the end and/or beginning off words. When he says something wrongly now, and we tell him the right way, he says 'oh!' and then the word. Sometimes he has to desperately search his mind for the sounds he needs to say the words he wants to say. He also speaks like English is his second language (he sounds a bit like a Polish person speaking English) because he has to think about it so much.
Revel in what he has achieved, sherrard, the rest will follow. I have lived through something a little different as to dyslexia-related issues but they can come through!

I do DTC. He has done brilliantly well, no one can believe how far he has come (especially as they wanted me to send him to a special unit - only 30 places for all primary aged children in the whole county). I just find his 'problem' quite interesting. I especially love the way he calls his brother Jack 'Jaques' (sadly he no longer calls thing 1 'Flower' as he can now say her name).
He'll come through it with your continuing encouragement....A war is won over several battles, usually some small ones you lose but the big ones you win!
Ahhhh, he sounds like a sweet heart x
