China gave BAA the contract for 90s Hong Kong airport and the nuclear plant is between trusted partners.

I hope we see the end of useless/failed wind farms

Genuine question. I'm sure I heard on the radio that for every wind turbine/farm they had to have a conventional power station 'fired up',as it were, ready to kick in when the wind doesn't blow/blows too hard. If true, aren't they virtually a waste of time/money.

While I expect you can turn the power from a conventional power station on and off at the flick of a switch, I doubt you can do the same to the power generators/fuel burning operations.

On a lighter note(we are in CB) My dad built HinkleyA. Our idea of a day out was to sit in the car-park all day while he worked. Lol. Ah, but on the way home we'd stop at the BlueBoar Inn in Bridgewater and have pop and crisps(with a blue bag of salt in) And then go on the Severn ferry to round off a grand day out. Easily pleased, weren't we.

Coal fired power stations need several days or even a week to go from being totally shut down to full power or vice versa, gas turbine power stations are the nearest to 'instant start/shut down' less than half an hour from cold to full power.
