Does 'soon to achieve chart success on their own' mean now, or soon after the 1982 tour? if it means present day, the singer would have to be well into their 40's....

I thought of David Grant as well, but then wondered if he was in Linx during 1981...I could have sworn 'Intuition' was in the charts in '81.
