A Better Basis For Belief?

Faith in the Bible does not hinge on what scientists say. When their advancing knowledge comes ever closer to conforming to the Bible, that does not make them become Christians.
No,they still cling to their religion of evolution. Faith does not depend on the archaeologists for establishment either.
Their discoveries merely confirm what the Bible has always said, but this confirmation does not convert them to Christianity. And when there is an apparent clash between the Bible and the interpretation they place upon a find, they lean toward their own understanding and not the Bible. (Prov. 3:5)
Science and archaeology are not essentials. They may serve a purpose in bringing infidels and atheists to their senses and cause them to examine the Bible more seriously, but faith should not be dependent upon such studies of science and archaeology for its foundation.

Except the bits that 'make' their computer work, enable them to fly to Dubai for a holiday etc. If he had to rely on religion and belief Keyplus would still be trudging across the desert following a camel. If he had manage to cross the Med that is. I do hope that the people who built the airliner were devout muslims and followed sharia law so that usuary was not involved in the funding of the aircraft buider or the airline that he used or in the manufacture of his computer or mobile phone.
Hello Goodlife good to see you trying again
Proverbs 3, 6 has nothing about archeologists and Christianity and is quoted out of context again:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.[a]
and it is arguable as to whether it applies to Bible study at all.
This could mean: in matters of faith, read the Bible rather than what Rebecca Brooks has written.....
The standard view on Bible and its interpretation by Christians is that they should pray for guidance and whether this is sufficient - it clearly is necessary. Sola Fidei - by faith alone.
I strikes me as sensible to see what others have said - to save duplication of effort to be honest.
i find the archeology interesting - but like the fella on TimeTeam said, that would be because I like digging up things....
what was the question by the way ?

I wonder if Goodlife can answer some questions about this extract from Matthew 24:
"26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."
Verse 27: has this happened, and, if so, when?
What is the tribulation mentioned in verse 29?
What does verse 30 mean? Has this happened yet?
Who are the elect mentioned in verse 31? How many of the elect are alive today? Why doesn't Matthew mention the other sheep who are going to be saved?
And what is the generation which will not pass away? Obviously not the evangelist's, obviously not (without perverse use of language) the generation of 1914. So who's@ And when?
