Payment of the winter fuel allowance is paid in line with the minimum retirement age for women.(for both men and womenn) ie. I am have just become 61 and will get my pension in 2015 at the age of 63years and 8 months. That is when I will also get the fuel payment.

Ubasses, Winterfuel payment is nothing whatsoever to do with womens retirement dates. Are you thinking of the free bus passes as they are?
Bednobs.......actually we have had one of the best summers on record this year ! Our normal monsoon that starts in early July and lasts until the end of September has been put on hold.
Anyway, we such beautiful green hills here, no doubt due to the sogginess !

I have copy and pasted the following paragraphs. It clearly states in para 2 that men get it on reaching the womens retirement age.
Who can get a Winter Fuel Payment
If you're a woman, you can claim a Winter Fuel Payment when you reach state pension age. You must be state pension age in the qualifying week for the winter concerned. The qualifying week always begins on the third Monday of September.
If you're a man, you can claim a Winter Fuel Payment when you reach the state pension age of a woman with the same date of birth as you. You must be this age in the qualifying week for the winter concerned. To qualify for a Winter Fuel Payment for the winter of 2013/2014 you must have been born on or before 5 January 1952.
