Not long to wait for resumption of play, given that Perth's two and a half hours behind Adelaide. remains to be seen which team comes out swinging this morning, I believe it'll be another hottie there today !!

Sir Geoffrey is, as ever, on the mark:

Chilli....I agree...BUT if he is dropped, then who will replace him?.....there is no obvious choice.
Big morning tomorrow and we need to bat until lunchtime without losing a wicket if we hope to save the Ashes.
Move everyone up a place and get Ballance in there, or Bairstow, who got a 100 in the tour match the other day.
We need men for the situation, not egomaniacs on a (failed) testosterone fest!
Making no apology for Pietersen Chill, I'd agree Boycott is uniquely well-placed to offer insight into hubris and ego. Equally, as Sqad points out, you can't just shunt the batting order around willy nilly.
Nowt wrong witih the Root decision. Snicko heard a snick.

Which registered once the ball was well beyond the bat.
As for shuffling the order, you can either move everyone up one (hardly a major upheaval) or just bring Ballance or Bairstow straight into the slot, minimal disruption.

Or does anyone else want to actually offer a solution/scenario of their own?
if snicko showed the ball hitting something else, or Haddin clicking his teeth or something, there'd be conclusive enough evidence for the third umpire to overturn the decision. But it didn't so the decision stood. Marginal decision at worst, not a stinker.

Nobody in the queue half as good as Pietersen, so he'll have to stay. Morgan, Bopara, Compton, all been tried and not quite up to it. There isn't even anyone in the queue half as good as Bopara. You could try out some beginners in the last test if the rubber's gone, but how did that work out with Woakes and Kerrigan last summer?
But snicko didn't show the ball hitting the bat at the time the noise registered, so to me he got a stinker.

Ballance and Bairstow on current form are both better than Bopara, who has had more last chances at Test level than Fraudley Harrison has at being a boxer and never delivered.
Carberry has been given his chance and taken it, time for someone else to be given the same opportunity because Pietersen's ego is getting in the way of the team, again.
