Mouse pointer freezes.

My MS IntelliMouse (PS/2) arrow pointer has started to freeze needing a re-boot to free it. A couple of times it has done the opposite becoming uncontrolable and opening screens at random. I think the start was moving to IE6. I have reverted to IE5.5 [see previous IE6 question] but the problem is getting more frequent. Do I need a new mouse or is the problem likely to be related to software? If the latter, what remedy is there please?

you need to clean your mouse, it is probably full of dust and grime. underdo the screws on the bottom of it and clean around the ball with a cotton bud - it will be as good as new.
