Which 47 Inch Smart Tv ?

I want to get a larger TV but it's a question of choice.
I want both Freesat and Freeview for a wider choice of channels but I would settle for just Freesat.
I want Smart Tv for the Internet.
I want Hd if its worth having. Can the TV switch the Hd facility on /off.?
Will I still be able to play ordinary Blue Ray Discs and Video Tapes ?

I'm not interested in 3D but they all seem to have it as standard now.
Does it matter ? Does 3D adversely affect the rest of the set. ?

How about the router is that affected in any way?

Your help on any of the above will be appreciated, especially on make of set.

Ignore 3D - it's a gimmick which is already on the way out.

Buy a set with a Freeview HD or Freesat HD tuner built in (this is not the same as 'Full HD' or 'HD ready') it means you'll get the Freeview or Freesat HD channels directly through your TV aerial or dish - they are stunning on a set of this size.

The TV will need to connect to your router (either with a cable or wirelessly) - any content you watch from the internet will add a huge amount to your broadband usage - make sure you have an 'unlimited' data cap.

BluRay and DVD will play on any set.

For me I'd buy Sony/Samsung or possibly LG - others may have different views.

You don't have to switch HD on and off.

If it is a HD channel it will be displayed on the TV as HD.

If it is non-HD channel it will be shown on the TV in normal SD (Standard TV).
