Sending A Parcel

cant get onto royal mail site at the moment but can anyone tell me that if I send a parcel by standard delivery (parcelforce 48) if I get a tracking number so I can track it and if by some remote chance it doesn't arrive that I can claim for loss. i know it says standard but not quite sure if this means its just normal parcel service

All Parcelforce items have a tracking number so, yes, you can track it on the website.

The extra fee for tracking is £1.10 on top of the normal parcel rate. It will get you compensation of up to £50. For untracked, with proof of posting (no charge, but you have to ask for it), the compensation only goes up to £20.

Both you and the addressee can follow the item through the system by its tracking number. Indeed, anybody who has been told the tracking number can do the same - there's no ID check.

bert - the extra £1.10 is for Royal Mail Signed For service which is not tracked. It goes in the ordinary post but is signed for at the other end and you can check on line that it has been signed for. Jesmond is on about Parcelforce which is different from Royal Mail, and yes is tracked the whole way, signed for upon delivery, covered up to £100 and guaranteed to get there on a certain day. I work in a Post Office and cannot tell you how many people thing that by paying £1.10 extra their item will be guaranteed to get there the next day, or is tracked the whole way. Sorry, but it doesn't work like that.
