i would suggest that barmaid who thinks the event would have been 'empowering' gets herself a dictionary and looks up what the word means before bandying it about because it is part of a lexicography that sounds 'cool'.

What ever this evening may or may not have been - 'empowerment' was never on the agenda.
Only to lesbians
I agree, the place will be packed and the regular clientèle will think it is hilarious.

I would never dream of reporting such a poster but can see how it may offend some.
Has anyone spared a thought for the sl@gs and hags who may have actually been looking forward to attending this event?

Selfish do-gooders have ruined their night out
There used to be a dance labelled "Vicars and Tarts"....blokes dressed up as guess what and the woman had short skirts, black stockings, see through blouses and black bras...........all good fun.

Do they still have them?...................or have they gone the way of other "good fun" functions.
When serving in HM Forces in UK, most Wednesday evenings there would be a disco in the NAAFI whereby the local female population would be invited and encouraged to attend.

It was proverbially known as 'The Dogs Ball'.
likely to be private parties, i remember going to one many years ago, like gangster and molls, it was an excuse to don fancy dress, slightly different i would have thought, still as others have said perhaps it won't be all bad publicity, but feel they could have used better language to attract their clientèle.
I don't see why they had to cancel, maybe there are other issues. If I said that barmaid looks a *** you'd all come down on me like a ton of bricks.
And dave50 "only to lesbians" - I'm assuming that was meant to be funny?
Hopkirk:
............He said officers had visited the landlord and "reminded him of his responsibility" adding: "We felt this wasn't an appropriate promotion and as a result spoke to them and they eventually agreed and removed the posters and cancelled the event.

LOL.....LOL.....Prudie.....I love you...LOL
Well, I wouldn't complain either but it hardly in the best taste is it ?
I'm not offended by it because it's just daft.

Calling women these derogatory names is pathetic.

I wouldn't attend an event which advertised using this sort of language.
In a word, yes.
I must be mellowing with age.

I just can't get het up about a poster in a pub advertising an event aimed at their regular clientele.

If it was a poster on a bus shelter I might take a different view but as it is I just don't understand the fuss.
I don't see the issue. Surely the non hags & slags won't be attending. unless it hit a home truth with some maybe ?
I know Zacs, but I bet the bar is suddenly busier now.
