warning light appears sporadically.

engine stalls sporadically

engine revs from 1000 rpm to 3500 rpm when car is at a standstill and should be idling on tickover

sorry it is a 1999 corsa 1.6

Sounds like the ECU. Take it to a garage and they'll plug it in and test it.
