Winter Games Day 6 (Wed 12Th)

This is it, guys.
Tomorrow morning, the start of Day 6 ...
You HAVE to be in front of a telly screen of some sort at 7.00am
It's the Women's Downhill.
Get up, make coffee, get the telly on, and don't forget to wear your Chemmy scarf, and your Chemmy tee shirt, and your Chemmy hat, and be waving your Chemmy flag.
It feels like the end of a long, long wait. Well, four years!
It's the greatest event, in the greatest sporting spectacle on the planet. It's the Winter Olympics, and it's the Women's Downhill. And ... it's Chemmy Alcott.
Oh, crap. What if my alarm clock breaks down in the night? Aaaaaagh! How am I supposed to sleep tonight.
Okay, here we go, guys. I'll see you on the other side, with plenty of coffee, and toast, ready to watch the Women's Downhill.

On a sunny morning like today, there was a massive advantage in skiing early. The piste was smooth, and hard.
By the time Chemmy skied, the surface had been cut up by 34 other skiers, and softened by the sun.
And, over a two mile run, Chemmy was less than two seconds off the Gold Medal time.
So yes, she would have placed waaaay higher if she'd had an earlier starting position.

Because her world ranking wasn't high enough to get a seeded draw place, and she went into the random draw. She could just as easily have skied around 14th. It was bad luck. This morning, when the telly came on, and it was a bright sunny day, and they said Chemmy was skiing 35th, it was a real heart sinker.
