my ten year old dog has been having tablets for epileptic fits for the last two years (although he has not had a fit for twenty months) up until i have just collected these from the vet who gives a thorough yearly when he receives his booster injection.. now the vet says he has to examine him every three rpt three months is this a case wanting still more money from us or is this common practice among all vets i would like to know there is not even a notice within the surgery explaining why this is being done

Common practice.

Your vet should really have been seeing him at a minimum of every 6 months anyway, but recently regulations are tightening up on veterinary medicines, and one aspect of this is that vets have to be able to prove that an animal is 'under their care'. Particularly for dogs on the sort of medication that yours is on, it's very important that they are monitored to detect any problems early on. Many side-effects or illnesses can be picked up by a thorough examination, so think of it as peace-of-mind that your older pet is getting check-ups.

Remember, a dog seeing a vet once a year is like you only seeing your doctor every 7 years!

many thanks eels for a comprehensive answer ... if only the vet had posted an explanation within the surgery this would have saved many complaints from clients many tks for answr 5-star

I would shop around and ask other vets what their policy is - I think three months is far too frequent.
