the forklift truck in work has been playing up over the last couple of weeks and getting worse at the end of last week and into this week, one of the batteries went and was replaced, then another one went, now even after a short while of use and when its charging there is a lot of white smoke/fumes comming from the battery which comes from under the seat and then around the driver which smells really bad making the driver and me feel really ill,......my question is what are these fumes and what are the health implications.

my friend complained of being sick all day(as we work nights) eyes stinging, feeling hot and cold.

Dave.

we are getting a new forklift tonight

sulfuric acid fumes probably...

Very very bad for you, possibly carcinogenic, you should have refused to use the forklift straight away!

tnx chuck
Put the FLT outside so the fumes can escape into the atmosphere and refuse to use it until it has been inspected by an authorised service engineer....
Hi, I personally cannot answer your question but I do recommend that you do take it to a professional forklift company to get it seen to as I am sure you know smoke from the battery and under the seat isn’t normal ;). I have bought Used Fork Lift trucks from H&F Fork Lifts and they have always been extremely helpful. Hope you get it fixed :)
sorry just realised this is a old post...
