Six men are in intensive care after taking part in clinical drug trials, They Volunteered to take part in testing an Anti-inflamatory drug.
The men suffered multiple organ failure in which two are said to be critically ill.
Apparently {parexel} have said they have followed the recommended guidelines, and an investigation is taking place.
My question is, does this strenghen the case to test animals or is this the chance you take when you volunteer for these type of trials, bearing in mind you do get paid.
From what i gather the majority of volunteers seem to be students, i assume this is the case to make ends meet.
Ps, i'm not saying for one moment that testing on animals is the right way, but what is the way forward in your view.

Hiya Drisgirl... Copaxone is a great drug, better than the interferons as I've read. I have a friend at HBO that is on goat serum and wants off it to go back to hyperbaric oxygen therapy, says it's def. better!!!
i think with MND and ms trials they coincide maybe because of neuron destruction? But I really do not have any idea, there was also lorenzos oil for a different trial on brain things and, again, ms was involved.. Big 'ol puzzle for the scientists to work on....
Sorry asci - forgot he also tried the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy as well (thats what they use for deep sea divers who have the bends isnt it?) I get confused sometimes - and he found that really helpful.
Sorry lawrie - not hi-jacking but this type of topic tends to diversify.Interesting thread lawrie:)
i think the main problem for many people who are anti animal testing is when the tests are for yet another shampoo or lipstick or perfume because it contains yet another chemical that claims to last forever or glue hair ends back together or something
but if its for genuine medical reasons then i think its something i can swallow
If you feel that drug companies are taking advantage of the world's population, preying on the young and vulnerable and in this case the african population then watch The Constant Gardener.
When testing for trials for drugs the young men as guinea pigs did not expect to die. THe company responisble, German of course, did not follow procedures. How many times has this happenend at the expense of humans. They claimed that the drugs were tested vigourously on animals. Just shows. Have you ever thought that animals can eat raw meat without a reaction and yet if we did we could have a severe reaction? Rats can eat almost anything without being affected. Does that mean that we can do the same? What on earth did they put in the drugs to have such a reaction?
