Can chocolate cause gout??
5 Answers
My husband suffers from gout and is not a big drinker and avoids 'trigger' foods as advised by GP. However over Easter he has rather indulged in chocolate and last night gout signals appeared and he can hardly walk today.
Am I jumping to wrong conclusion? or has anyone had similar experience?
Thanks

Yes, I have had gout for 25 plus years and have taken medication for it, as well, all this time. Whenever I indulge in chocolate heavily, within a day I will experience gout symptoms, even with medication. I imparted this to my doctor yesterday when I was seeing him for another reason, and he did not believe me - claiming chocolate is not protein and only protein(as in meats) brings on the gout. However, I will assure you that it DOES affect me as well.
