Downloaded Files (Avi Etc)

Have just bought a new dvd player with usb so I can record progs onto a pen drive, trouble is, it will only play avi. files, some of the things I want are MKV or mp4 (I really do not understand all this) Is there anyway I can convert on my computer these files to avi so I can watch them? I do hope you techies understand what I mean! Thank you.

I feel sure the answer is yes. Google for video converters free download. Don't forget to virus scan anything you try.

well I think I am doing it but until I plug the stick in I'll not know, it's takes forever to convert!

Did you wind up the elastic band first ?

I've done that on on my download page it says they are avi but having put them on to my pendrive, it still says wrong format??

Are you sure it is the avi format it is complaining of ?

I'm not an expert on disks but I do know some HiFi type players need the disk "finished" in some way before it can work out how to find and play the video/music, whist PC type players have a greater ability and don't tend to worry about it. They just find the files and play them.

I'm just wondering if it's saying the disk is the wrong format, not the video files ?

I did manage to convert but converted progs to avi. When through trial and error I have found it needs to convert to mpeg. Makes no sense to me but you pointed me in the right direction so thank you.
