I needed staff on three occasions last year and on each occasion I rang Job Centre Plus and gave them all the info. I was told that anyone looking for a part time retail job would be able to spot the vacancy and ask for details, Not one person ever got in touch, on the third occasion i went into the job centre myself to try and find it but to no avail, i even asked a member of the job centre team to look and they couldn't find it either. This week i needed a new recruit but instead of ringing Job centre Plus again, i used to on-line option of uploading the vacancy to the Job Centre Plus system myself and composing it myself. I have had 14 phone calls since 9am and I am wondering what went wrong on those previous occasions!

You asked the Job centre staff to do it!

I've had similar problems myself when looking for junior staff. They offer no help whatsoever. Despite being very clear about the kind of person I was looking for the Job centre "job description" posted on their job search computers bore no relation to my requirements. As a consequence I had lots of "hopeful" people applying for a job they had no chance of getting. I complained to the job centre (by letter) and to date (some four years later) I'm still waiting for a reply. Frankly Job centres let down a lot of people on an alarmingly regular basis.

Next time try your nearest University Jobshop - most are free, you get a good response and many students need part-time jobs but rely on thier university to help them.

When I signed on the dole after uni whilst job hunting, the job centre was full of ******* nobs and pikey wasters (and that's just the staff) who are only there because the government makes them go to sign on. I wouldn't be suprised if the job never made it on to the system.

Most couldn't sign their name without instructions and a guiding hand. It doesnt suprise me you got more response from making a proactive approach to recruitment.

I have had another 18 responses today! I am overwhelmed now! But it just shows that there is a seriously bad system being used that passes for a Government run employment advice agency. I am still awaiting a response from the Manager of the local job centre in Wigan, but one of his staff told me that the jobs that people ring in to advertise, are dealt with prior to going on line at the Liverpool call centre. (?)
Thanks for the support for your local Jobcentre staff! Not, I work in a jobcentre, and people slag it off constantly. The person to complain to is yor local MP. Dunno if you are aware but the government is reducing the number of staff in Jobcentres by over 30,000, yes 30,000. If this was any other industry there would be an uproar, but here?? Nothing. That is how your service has been poor. Staff now are doing the jobs of 2/3 colleagues. It wont matter shortly anyway as all government work i going to be tendered abroad, probably India. So you should be able to get your vacancy on no problem then eh? Rant over, if you have a vacancy you want to advertise locally, call your local jobcentre and ask to speak to either the Vacancy Services Manager or the Employer Engagement Officer. They should then take your details and will market your vacancy to try and get it filled quickly. It will also give you a direct contact.

I havn't the time nor the inclination to wait for the jobcentre to get around to getting my vacancy right, I did it myself and uploaded it to the jodcentre plus website, i have had 28 responses, 27 more than the job centre could produce in the last 2 years, not a chance i would trust the staff again to handle the vacancies. the boat sailed, they lost their chance with my company and I am obviously not on my own.
Your all civil servants paid for by the taxpayer. If the Government decides they dont need you thats tough **** mate. The electorate has spoken. Welcome to the real world. Oh and the queue for the job centre starts over there......
Good shout Jonjo. Do you have any relatives? A mum/ gran/ sick/ unemployed relative? Maybe you at some point? What you gonna do if they need to claim financial support but have to phone India/ Thailand/ China to make a claim and it gets held up for months on end. Think it wont happen? It is already mate. Around 5mill people are getting some form of benefit. Whos gonna deliver that service? The electorate hasnt spoken, the government hasnt spoken. They are just trying to cut costs by reducing services to the old, the vulnerable and the infirm. The * * * * will hot the fan in the next couple of years. So remember it was you that said the electorate has spoken. ps dont believe everything you read in the Sun, civil servants wages are nowhere near what they quote. In a Jobcentre the maj of staff are on @ 12-17,000 a year. Not exactly gold plated considering the **** we put up with,
You really have no idea about Econmics do you?
