Piccadilly is the name of an area in London and an area in Manchester. It is also the name of a brand of cigarettes. But what exactly does Piccadilly mean ? Who or what was it ?

I believe there are a number of derivations; the only one I remember is that it may come from the latin "piccadilla" (little sins) because it was a red light district a long time ago...
