Can ayone see any justification for this photograph?

And would they have used a picture if the victims were a young British couple rather than African immigrants?

I don't read the Guardian. Never have. I'm a Telegraph man.
The Torygraph ? goodness me even I dont read that !

Apologies for the accusation.
I don't know what the colour of these people have got to do with it to say they wouldn't have printed them if they had been black is sheer stupid, in fact they look blue to me.

Why were all the dead bodies that they displayed when Belson was liberated white? Was it okay to publish pictures of them?
AOG - "Why were all the dead bodies that they displayed when Belson was liberated white? Was it okay to publish pictures of them?"

It was over sixty years ago, and what was acceptable then is not acceptable now. Back then you could write and sing the lyrics to The Sun Has Got His Hat On with impunity - and the list goes on and on about what was acceptable then, and is not now.

So really your analogy does not hold up AOG.
it was the sheer number of the bodies at Belsen that made the point; that and their emaciated state. Neither is a factor here.

Just because you disagree with my analogy doesn't necessarily make it void.#

Incidentally I don't know if you are aware of the fact, but those disturbing images of corpses being bull dozed into mass graves are still shown on our TV screens, they haven't been banned from being shown, as it seems obvious you would wish these less disturbing images to be.

So what are you trying to say, it is perfectly in order to show mass numbers of bodies in an emaciated state, but not a couple of dead bodies, especially if they happen to be black?
what has Belsen got to do with this? Belsen was a death camp not a boat.

I can show you bodies around boats if that is your problem.
sorry but you have lost me.
it seems a bit bizarre to compare 2 things so far apart and totally different

They could have been a British couple and still been African immigrants.

Not in the least the thread is regarding a certain newspaper daring to show grafic imagages of a couple of dead bodies, I was merely pointing out that there have been much more grafic images than these.

I just think that the poster is either a little too sensitive or more likely he is just taking the opportunity to get his usual anti Daily Mail rhetoric across along with an additional racist slant
Personally I found the live pictures of a savage soldier killer with blood on his hands after he had tried to decapitate his victim, much more grafic and disturbing.
I neither agree or disagree with with the sentiments expressed by ABers on this subject. All I can say is a National Newspaper is showing these pics as part of a world news report. I personally do not read any newspapers I get my news on TV.
ok. So if the Daily mail posts a picture of two naked men kissing each other that will be ok because of Belsen?. I get it.
AOG...have you been drinking today ?

No newspapers in the 1940s showed pictures of dead bodies at any concentration camps.

Newreels at Cinemas showed the liberation of the camps but were heavily and shown to an adult audience only.

The images we are now familiar with came as evidence from the War Trials. There have been shocking documentaries since, but were shown after the watershed, and not in a family newspaper without any warning.
