Kaspersky V Norton

I have been using kaspersky anti virus since I bought my desktop computer (old fashioned I know) about four years ago and have had no problems with viruses, gremlins or any such problems. However over the last couple of weeks I have been getting messages from Norton saying my computer is dreadfully infected and I should download Norton to rectify this problem; when I click on to my kaspersky site I am informed that my computer is protected and there are no problems at all so who do I believe? I know this is a minefield so any help will be greatly appreceated.Thanks

I'm prepared to bet that you haven't been getting messages from Norton. (Why would you, if you're using Kaspersky?).

It matters not whether you're using Kaspersky, Norton, MacAfee, AVG, Avast, Comodo or anything else. None of them will block all MALWARE. That's almost certainly what you've got on your computer and accepting the offer to download something from Norton will, instead, download and install something extremely nasty, such as Cryptolocker:

So you need to get rid of that malware. Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes:

Points to note:
1. When installing, take care to deselect the option to install free trial of the 'PRO' version ;
2. When running it, use the 'Quick scan' option ;
3. Don't be surprised when that 'quick' scan takes over half an hour to finish ;
4. When it does so, click the button to view the results, ensure that there's a tick alongside everything listed and then click the button to delete what's been found.

Jeffa. As far as I knew I had only one anti virus installed which is kaspersky which I have been very happy with. To my knowledge I never at any time downloaded Norton or any other antivirus programmes so back to my main question who do I believe or all they all xxxxxxxx!

DO NOT trust those so-called 'Norton' messages. As I've said above, they're almost certainly generated by MALWARE (which has absolutely nothing to do with Norton!!!). Clicking on a download link from one of those messages may well render your computer permanently useless!!!

Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and they'll simply disappear.

thank you all for your help.I have just clicked on to my Kaspersky site and it tells me my computer is protected at present. However, going on your collective advice I will attempt to remove the Norton problem asap and see what happens. Thanks again.S.O.G
