Just heard on the Today program, that there is breaking news about Maddy.
Apparently an area of scrub land has been cordoned off. Nothing on the BBC News website yet.

and whilst we are at it - does anyone reollect poor little Ben Needham ?
Regarding Ben...didn't they dig up part of a garden not so long ago?
Yes they did, and found nada unfortunately. I feel awful saying 'fingers crossed, let's hope they find something" but that only means one thing :(
I think I'd rather live in hope.
Hopefully none of us will ever be in that position to have to be worrying about knowing or not. The pain must be unimaginable. :(
Gerry and Kate certainly need some sort of resolution to this and the sooner the better.

Winnie Johnson went to her grave without knowing where her poor son was buried.....and the thoughts of seeing the McCann's pain through my TV screen for the next few decades breaks my heart.

Horrendous. Imagine the scenarios that have gone through their heads.
Genette Tate's family have lived with this for 36 years!! This has also been mentioned in the news today.
Always felt immense sympathy for the Mccanns.

My own daughter is roughly the same age as Madeleine is (was) and I truly empathised with them at the time and still do.

I really hope they get closure on this one way or another.
its very difficult not to comment on this family, when the reason this latest development is being discussed , as their actions/non actions are why the case is in the media again. its always been a very emotive subject, and everyone has their own opinion/theories.
Mikey it's been on Sky News all morning and still on now. BBC's always behind Sky with breaking news.
Yes and I agree with those saying don't turn this into a McCann bashing thread; that has been done to death on here. Let's hope they can get closure on this. After all this time I think I would rather know now, no matter how painful, what had happened to my daughter.
Inevitably, whenever this tragedy surfaces in the news again, so does the debate about the circumstances of Medelain's disappearence.

It is very easy with hindsight to say that the McCanns were irresponsible, but had this dreadful event not happened, none of us would be any the wiser.

Yes, there was an error of judgement in their behaviour, but God knows they have paid the price for it, and you would need a heart of stone not to feel for them as their torment drags on and on.
obviously we would be none the wiser if the event never happened ?
