No mention of The World Cup in Corrie thought Steve would have the big screen ready and happy hour etc and Tyrone, Simon and all the footie fans would be talking about it, maybe too busy with murder and mayhem!

Never crossed my mind, but you're right. Well picked up.
They mentioned it in either Emmerdale or Eastenders. Can't remember which!
Enders did, they are always on the ball!
just like all soaps they don't do reality well .

Agree weecalf it's supposed to be a story of every day life but they do miss out on big occasions!
Filming 6 weeks in advance makes reacting to current events difficult I suppose, at least the Archers can cut in topical references being only audio.
I think in the past, the producers have been keen to exclude anything too topical as it will date the foreign sales of the programme, which may be a few months behind the domestic market.
Soaps tend to avoid reality - as advised because of the time-lag between recording and transmission, when things can happen to change events.

If there had been a terrorist attack and the World Cup had been abandoned, it would't sit too well if people were in the Rovers 'watching' a tournament that never took place.

In order to avoid such scenarios, almost all the soaps avoid 'reality' infringing on their isolated bubbles of existence.
Thank heavens they don't, I'm sick of the footie already!
They struggle to even show weather events accurately, so footie is beyond them.

I suppose a car with flags on going down the street is the best they can do.
Oh yes Hopkirk, I recall an Emmerdale episode where it snowed/didn't snow all through, one moment there was a foot of snow, the next it was all clear!
They are even doing World Cup theme nights in the Pub on the Archers! Is there no escape from blinking football.... The off button I guess!!! ;-)
Glad they don't mention footie in Corrie, all the more reason for me to watch it !
World Cup 1 Corrie 0 - No Corrie on Friday thanks to...yes you've guessed it, WORLD CUP!
Maybe they don't want to reminder viewers its on the other side when they are watching Corrie on ITV
