I am travelling with the budget airline, British European (flybe.com) and wondered if they were any good

Flew British European once, and never will again. Nuff said.

Price and level of service is usually linked in the airline business but safety, etc. are not supposed to be. The simple fact is that from a passenger's point of view economy class on short-haul routes varies very little between airlines unless you suffer some sort of problem like loss of baggage, etc.
