Unauthorised payment

I have had a card payment leave my bank account for £14.95 titled LV8* GB Discounts. I have no idea what this is. I have called the bank and all they can tell me is that it is a subscription (I haven't subscribed to anything) and they are going to try and cancel it for me. Does anyone have any idea what this is? Thanks.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.As far as I have dug into this (after having faced the same problem ofcourse!), "LV8* GB Discounts" comes from " Great British Discounts". From their website, I learned that according to clause 12 and 13 of their Terms and conditions, we are able to cancel membership and get complete refund provided you ask for cancellation within 60 days of registration. If you exceed 60 days, then you may cancel membership but may not be refunded. We can ask for cancellation of membership by contacting via post or e-mail. Their email address is [email protected] Do provide your complete contact information including name, address and mobile number.
I am not sure of the above procedure but this is as far as I have learned searching my email and subscription history datewise. I have done my homework, and hoping they will respond soon!

The company is better kown has great british discounts. There tel no is 08000394053. Its happened to me to. Call them mon- fri 8-8pm and cancel your membership which you probley did by mistake and unknowingly. Also check to see how long they have deen taking the money and demand a full refund. The company use other websites to get you to join, very sneaky!. hope this helps. If you have trouble let your bank deal with it..
This definitely emanates from Flybe - booked a flight in October, 95p deducted immediately from bank account and then £14.95 a month later. I did not opt in to membership of the "Great British Discount Company" nor have I ever had a membership card or any other communication from them. On the advice of my Bank's fraud helpline I telephoned the GBDC (LV*8) and they immediately offered a refund. Can't argue with that but this practice does not help the reputation of companies such as Flybe. And no, I won't be using Flybe again as, having booked the flight, they called me three weeks later and told me the route was being discontinued!
I have had the same issue with an unrecogniseable and unauthorised payment on my account statement. Apparently this subscription service or discount service is linked to many company through whom you may have made an online purchase including train tickets, flights, and other online merchants. The company or merchant may be noted under the Terms and Conditions you agreed to when purchasing something online.
However, this does not seem to be a legitimate, reputable or legal undertaking, and I am currently investigating the matter through my bank. I would recommend that anybody try to cancel this as soon as they detect it on their account.

I've had the same for the last three months! It's a Company called Great British Discounts. Fortunately Barclay's were a lot more helpful then your bank and provided me with the Company name and number of 0800 0394053. It turns out Flybe.com had sold my details onto them after I bought a flight! LV8* Discounts were very helpful and have said they will now refund all 3X £14.95 payments in the next 10 days and cancel my subscription.
Flybe are the scum here as after you've bought flight tickets they offer you cash-back or some rubbish on the tickets confirmation page, when you click this link you find out it's a con where you have to sign up to this Company. AT this point and NO further I closed my browser and was more then happy to forget the cash-back offer. I did not go any further then link the cash-back offer link on the Flybe page. It would appear that was enough for this joke Airline to sell MY BANK DETAILS on to a third party! GRRRR! Hope this helps :)

I noticed this payment of £14.95 to lv8*gb discounts and thought it was my insurance but it is some sort of scam. I phoned the number supplied by sjr03 (08000962925) in his/her message and was offered a refund straight away. I now have to wait 5/10 days to see if I get my money refunded. I remember vaguely agreeing to some discount scheme but shortly after I sent them an email cancelling. As this is a credit/debit card scheme I don't think the bank is obliged to make a refund as they are with a Direct Debit.
This is called Great British Discounts. It is caused by ticking a box on online retailers either on purpose or by accident. NEVER use a bank DEBIT card on line. By doing so the contract is between the cardholder and the retailer. ONLY use a credit card where the contract is between the cardholder and the bank who can then reimburse.
YES THIS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME AND MY BANK GAVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE LITTLEWOODS VOUCHERS.

I have been scammed by this lot too. If you are absolutely 100% certain you did not sign up for their services, or that you definitely did not click on the free offer and "go through to the 3rd party website and enter your bank details again" then you may have a case for breach of The Data Protection Act.
Here some questions to consider:
1) Did you receive any kind of notification, email confirmation, membership number, membership identity, request for you to confirm your membership, either online or by paper post? Any idea what you have bought?
No? Me neither. No idea whatsoever.
2) Did you at any time give this company your 3-digit security code on the back of your debit card.
No? Neither did I.
3) Does the transaction on your bank statement have the description LV8*GB Discounts "CARD PURCHASE* by it?
Yes? So does mine! Oh gosh and they told me on the phone it was a direct debit subscription membership. How confusing!
And you know why they told you that?
No? I'll tell you:
Because the 3-digit security code on the white strip on the back of your card is for you to give in lieu of your being present in the actual shop or trading premises of the vendor. In other words, you need to be able to remember giving this company your 3-digit security code over the phone, or over the internet.
You didn't? Neither did I.
Which means the second party in your transaction (ie. the vendor, the person you are buying from) has somehow let this THIRD PARTY get hold of your bank details, in particular your 3-digit security code.
Does it matter? Yes. It's a breach of the Data Protection Act and what's more, if one company has it, who else around the world is going to start dipping into your bank account?
If somebody took the wallet out of your jacket, or the purse out of your handbag, you would make a fuss wouldn't you?
Well, this is the same. So you need to take action.
1) You have to report your card as compromised and get a new one with a new 3-digit security code. Ask your bank to cancel that card and send you a new one.
2) You need to report the transactions to the Fraud Department of your bank to stop these companies taking any more money out.
3) Ideally you need to close your bank account and move to another bank.
4) You need to go on to the Citizens Advice Bureau website and make a complaint under the Data Protection Act. Please do this. Even if they give you your money back, they have taken your bank details without permission, so please report them. The CAB are very helpful and understanding.
You need to review your whole policy of buying online and I don't have an answer for that.
This problem has cost me days and days of grief and money.

In front of me in the bank, another customer was having the very same conversation as I was, trying to get unauthorised debits stopped!
So please, let it be known that it has happened to you.

Me too ! I've tracked mine to buying flights to Ireland through FlyBe. Seemingly there is a pop up on the online site offering a £20 cashback - which , of course, everyone will jump at ! And from then on...you are debited with £14.95/monthly for subscription to a discount scheme !

They are based in Ireland. They took money out of my account also. They have promised to credit it back but some 20 days later nothing has happened. I was told by a chap called Mark that they had a head office in London but that is a lie its just a mailbox address. There contact number is 08000394055. But they make a load of promises and fail to repay.

I suspect I inadvertently clicked on some button whilst going through with the original purchase.
I was then out of the country for a while and did not pick up on the scam straight away. Now phoned these B***s and got the payments cancelled. They claim to have sent e-mail, but a search on our systems has not shown any e-mails.
I am now onto the Bank's fraud department to get the other payments back.
We now live in a society of electronic pickpockets who not only scam your hard earned monies but waste an inordinate time and resources in dealing with these ***s.
I have a blacklist of outlets I never have anything to do with ever again, in this case Zavvi.com.
