If my Dad and his parents were born and raised in the UK, My Mum was born in the UK but her parents and their parents before them were Irish born and bred, does that mean I'm part Irish or am I completely English? What would my Mum be if she was born in the UK but her parents were both Irish?
Assuming you were born in the UK and that you are talking about the Republic of Ireland rather than Northern Ireland, then you are English with Irish roots (or ancestry) as your mother would be. My father was Irish, my mother is English. I always say I am half Irish but that is just a figure of speech. I am English.
Sorry that must have sounded like a really thick question musn't it. I know that I'm English I just wonder how people say things like, 'I'm quater german, quarter french, quarter spanish and quarter norwegian'. I wondered if it actually meant anything. Obviously not. Thanks!
never mind about the other comments, you are definitely quarter irish, if any of you're grandparents were born in ireland (north or south) you can say you are quarter irish. so you go for it next st patricks day
