itching and redness

over the last few months, i have started to experience epsiodes where i have an uncontrollable itching. naturally my instinct is to avoid getting into the "itch-scratch" cycle, but often i am overcome. often when i do scratch, it's quite vigorous, and i'm left with unusually raised and reddened marks from my nails. also, sometimes my face and neck seem to become very sensitive to something and i get redness from the slightest rubbing or scratching, scraping (i.e. if i rub my eyes, the whole area goes red; if my jumper scrapes my forehead as i remove it, i'm left with a glowing mark. also, very blotch eye area generally after showering. ANY IDEAS???

try changing your washing detergent, sound like an allergy to me!

I also suffer from itchy skin , which has got worse as I've get older. I have know idea what is causing this. As Lollyhoney said, it could be your washing powder. I cannot use any biological soap powder.

However if you have not changed any of your household products i.e. soap, shampoo, laundry stuff etc it may be worth visiting your GP to see if you can be referred to a dermatologist for allergy testing.

Hi, Trillipse, I have just visited my own GP because for the last few weeks i have been kept awake all night through itching. It even gets that bad that I make myself bleed. It's amazing that I might start off with an itch on my arm and then it just seems to travel to other parts of my body. I had a blood test done, because it might have been down to a blood disorder. I got the results back and I am very anaemic for which I am now on tablets for. It is worth booking in to see your own GP on Monday. Good luck.
