Windows XP System Restore

I have only one system restore point, created today by trying to install aService Pack 2 update that I shouldn't have tried to install. Due to low disk space, all other restore points have been deleted. As I have a, shall we say, dubious copy of XP, the system is now crashing repeatedly and I desperately need to restore it to maybe a month or two ago. Is there ANY way I can do this??? Please don't suggest the programme Go Back, as I have read so many damning reviews of it.

There's no way to restore a system in the way you suggest, unless you took regular registry backups, and even then the restore would be flawed. I think the best you can hope for is a repair of Windows by booting from your Windows XP CD and choosing to repair the installation (the SECOND time it asks, not the first time with the recovery console).

With a non-legal copy of XP however, you're always going to have trouble with service packs. Might be time to open the wallet, maybe?

Also, in addition to the above, If you've now installed SS2. you can't use your original Windows XP cd rom to re-boot, if you've downloaded it, go to Windows Update and order one from Microsoft, its free.

Thanks for your answers. I was unable to download Service Pack 2, due to my having a non-legal copy of Windows XP, so at least I don't have that problem. However, it has still created a Restore Point for the attempt, and has deleted all others. I will reinstall from the original disk.
