can some one please tell me what purpose in life (apart from really getting on mt nerves)do these little sods have, there are so bloody annoying, how comes they are so small but we feel them, and when a mozzie or a horse fly lands on us we never feel them, somebody pleaseeeeeee tell me
Mozzies and horse flies have evolved to land ever-so-lightly on their victims so that their arrival isn't noticed, and they can have a feed before you know they're there. Thunder flies (aka Corn flies) just arrive, start wandering about on your skin, and so you feel them. Harmless, but oh-so-irritating.
part of the wonder of Darwinian evolution is that creatures need have to point or purpose in life, they merely have to be good at surviving and, most importantly, reproducing. Here endeth the sermon.
I have got them all over my body and in my hair. I work in an environmental firm and one of our entamologists says that they are especially attracted to newly painted surfaces which is something that we had done yesterday at our firm. Also he says that when the wheat is being reaped, they come out in droves. They are horrid. I am going barmy with the itchy feeling that they ahve given me.
You can feels these thunder flies because when they are doing the harvesting they come out. But for horse flies and mozzies you can not feel theme becausethere so light in the air. When you try and squishbthem they dont leave any splatter or they jump so far that u wont notice they are gone. Also these thunder flies are attracted to bright colours
