Green (i.e. unripe) apples have a bitter taste and most would not eat them, but they can cause colic if they did.

Thanks for clearing that up Jno, I thought I was missing something ;-/

Thanks others, it was just a few slightly under ripe wind falls, I'm sure no harm is done but I'm glad I know better now.
