I’m hoping someone could help… I’m writing an essay on the treatment of motherhood and gender relations and was wondering which book would be best to use from the following as cant seem to find much information on this topic anywhere!

George Gissing, The Nether World
H.G.Wells, The Time Machine
Henry James, The Ambassadors
E.M.Forster, Howards End
D.H.Lawrence, The Rainbow

D.H. Lawrence always has something going on with motherhood - and The Rainbow has much on gender - as does it's "sequal" Women in Love - a decent critical study is Snow of Fire by Gary Adelman.

Howard's End is also quite good for dynamics of gender and parental, and E.M.F. is the best writer out of them.

Just avoid Wells - he's so dull.
