Why is this allowed to happen?

Why are paedophiles allowed to do what they do, and then after they have been caught and released from prison get help to house them back into the community either next to their victim or some school or somewhere you dont really need people like that? Is there any ongoing legislation etc. that aims to help parents protect their children by knowing of any wrong-uns living in their midst?

i dont know but there should be we all have the right to no if we live by a danger to our kids, i personaly think they should be locked up for life and experimented on instead of the innocent animals used, that would also give a true result in affects on humans instead of these people being paid like the ones in the press latley.

Because people are too soft - if this happened to any of my family they would be dealt with in an appropriate way - they would have the sh*t kicked out of them and left so that they could never do it again.

Emotive questions always provoke emmotional responses - this is no exception.

The facts, without emotion are a little more complex than the previous responses allow.

Paedophiles are closely monitored on release. It is obviously impossible to advise people in the neighbourhood where a convicted paedophole is placed - to prevent the kind of righteous lynching party that would be camped outisde the door within minutes.

Like it or not, people who are convicted of a crime serve their sentence, and that's it, punishment over, return to society. You cannot simply legislate for paedophiles as a 'special case' to be thrown to the vigilantes for 'justice', that is simply not how a civilised society works.

Recidivists with no hope of rehabilitation need to be placed in secure institutions, but criminals are all treated the same way by the legal system - trial, conviction, sentence. If you want to start messsing with the concept of justice, where do you stop? Cutting off hands / ears / noses as they do in other cultures?

I confess I do not know what the solution to rehabilitation of paedophiles is, but I certainly know what it is not. Self-righteous individuals visiting their own brand of 'justice' based entirtely on their own revusltion to a particular crime is the way towards the end of civilisation.

The law is a long way from perfect, but it needs to be ammended by debate and concensus, not ignored by a few violent individuals who think they have all the answers.

Andy's answer is a very well thought out one and very well put, but as far as I am concerned, the main reason is because, they haven't been executed.

They are scum,and have no right to live in a civilised society,I don't believe these people will stop what they are doing when they are caught,most of them come out and do it again & again, it makes me sick, look at gary glitter for instance, a lot of countries aren't doing enough to stamp it out, start executing a few at least that would rid the world of a few, Sorry to be so blunt but I find these revolting cretins repugnant.

'if they're caught they're punished' Thats the problem they are not punished,punishment should fit the crime and in majority of these cases if not all,it doesn't, its laughable!!!
