Anyone know anything about bursitis? What brings it on and help for
pain relief?

bursitis is inflammation of a bursa. A bursa is a small pocket of fluid on joints such as the trochanter, elbow or knee eg hence the phrase of old "housemaids knee." It facilitates the smooth movement of muscle over the joint. Doctors can offer anti inflammatory drugs or a steroid injection. Last resort is an operation to remove the offending bursa. I have trochanteric bursitis for which I have declined these options. It comes and goes

Ive had it on my knee and its bloody agony but it does go with time xx

I have bursitis in my left elbow and when it flares up it hurts very very much.

I have to rest my elbow on a cushion thing when I am at the computer and watch what I am doing.

I am 'lucky' in that it is not sore all the time. But I ended up with infected bursitis last year and that was agony. I had to take paracetamol and co-codamol as Ibuprofen and Aspirin are bad for me.

I've got troncanteric bursitis too and have had steroid injections, also have it in my shoulders causing impingement, also had steroid injections in them.

I've got it in my feet too and they have me some special insoles to help my feet balance a bit better but I have rheumatoid arthritis so think I'm on a bit of a hiding to nothing on that one.

I also have my RA drugs to try to reduce inflammation and, in turn, help the bursitis.

I spoke to a consultant about an operation for bursitis, and asked him about the odds. He said, 60 percent chance of success, 20 percent chance of no change, 20 percent chance of it getting worse. And the "no change" and "worse" scenarios both involve a scar into the bargain. I said no, I didn't care for those odds.

i have it in my hip and thighs. It has spread from the base of my spine on the right now into the left side. I think it comes on more when I've been carrying heavy shopping. Other times it just happens. It is chronic and I'm beside myself sometimes as don't know what to do. Only the strong co coda mol 30/500 that my husband takes seems to help me sleep but I'm drowsy the next day so can't plan things as i would like and don't want to keep taking them. The pain feels as if weight is bearing down on my pelvic bone at the top of my hips, almost as if the top half of my body is too heavy for the bottom half. It has suddenly come on over the last 3 months and I cannot understand the cause. Im wondering how effective a steroid injection would be. Ive researched foods that may bring it on but found nothing really.

steroid injection worked for me, after 5 bloody months of pain, which docs couldn't figure out. all in your head dear, sort of thing

ohh, i may pursue that then emmie, i had an mri scan which diagnosed it and am having physio to help with posture. I am supposed to do exercises to strengthen my core but they hurt so i don't do them so its not that which is causing the pain. I have missed work twice now as I haven't slept til about 4 am then I'm good for nothing the next day and had to phone in sick.
