blocked drains!

our external sewerage drain in the garden appears to have filled with water, as a result our toilet fills with (clean) water when flushed and takes ages to go down. In addition, the general household wastewater (sink, washing machine etc..) drain overflows as well. We haven't put anything untoward down the toilet to cause this, and have no idea how to resolve this (we fear plumbers/Dyno-rod will rip us off).. help!

Go to B&Q buy drain flushing rods for about �14, follow the instructions carefully and do it yourself!

If it has not blocked up before this will probably clear the obstruction.

i agree with Toureman, try to unblock it yourself, do you have the main sewerage in your garden as other households may have blocked you up.

Sometimes a backlog of grease can build up and solidfy, especially in cold weather, clogging things up, even if you haven't deliberately poured melted grease down the pipes. Possibly a really concentrated solution of a grease dissolving agent or detergent poured down might shift things.

If none of this works you might try contacting your water company as there may be a problem further up the road which is affecting you ..........

Thanks for the replies: it turns out an old drain rod has been stuck down there forever, and has actually been causing the blockage underneath the house! The blockage is now clear thanks to Mr Plumber but there's just no shifting that naughty old drain rod! Will definitely look into B&Q rods next time it happens though!
