*** Since the carnival did not have local authority permission, initial police involvement was aimed at preventing it taking place at all, which resulted in regular confrontation and riots. ***

/// Scotland Yard staged a series of dawn raids on Tuesday linked to this weekend's Notting Hill carnival in west London. Weapons including two machine guns and a handgun, crack cocaine and about £70,000 in cash were seized, and 88 people were arrested. ///
/// Ch Supt Robyn Williams said: "We are committed to ensuring that Notting Hill carnival remains a safe, vibrant and enjoyable event. ///
Why wait until just before this Carnival, the police should be raiding these premises on a regular basis throughout the year?

It seems that you and Zacs-Master are the only ones who are slow on the uptake, but carry on with the fishing you are not going to catch me.
Regarding "it would be better for the debate if you could be more open", we are now in a situation in this country when it is not wise to be too open.
Those who know what is going off don't need to be told, and those who profess not to know, know perfectly well.

Well, if you refuse to state what you mean, it I'll be impossible to really engage in the debate. We can only guess what you mean, and that can lead to misunderstandings, and accusations which may or may not be justified.
But here's the thing, seeing as we (as you insist) all know the reason why it hasn't been banned...why post the question in the first place?
Some might take this as meaning that you have some hidden agenda. I'm not saying that it necessarily true, but I'm sure how your reticence in actually stating what you mean, can lead to this conclusion.
