Mower Oil Change ?

Next time my mower runs out of fuel, I'm planning on taking the opportunity to change the oil, thats now become black and thin.
Trouble is, I can't seem to locate the drain plug (Briggs & Stratton engine), so should I just turn the whole thing upside down and let the oil drain from the filler cap hole ?

On my old Briggs and Stratton (Sovereign Lawn mower) the drain plug was under the blade skirt.Turn mower on front end and look behind skirt.Behind blade should be a hole where you can see the drain plug with it's square Allen Key type end. Good hunting.

Its the only way chips..unless you buy a drain syringe...(like a grease gun with a tube on).

Chipchopper Yes that's about all you can do as any Briggs and Stratton engine I have had has not had any drain plug.

That's probably your simplest option. Even if you find the drain plug it will probably be difficult to get the oil to go into a container withoutmaking a mess. An alternative is to syphon it out or use a sump pump (used to be available from machine mart).

Is it a cylinder or rotary mower. Drain plug will be at bottom of engine - you could tilt mower back to locate it, loosen it then chock the mower up level on something e.g. bricks and drain oil. Do have a Manual? - should be in there or google the mower type, manufacturer & manual - you may find a free one. Good idea to run mower first as warm oil will remove lots of debris as well - hope this helps

Extract from B&S manual.
Tilt the lawnmower towards the oil filler,have a container ready to catch the oil and remove the dipstick. Once the oil has been emptied,wipe clean any spillages.

Start the engine and allow it to run briefly.

Stop engine,wait one minute and check the oil level. Top up if necessary.

Forgot to mention REFILL with oil,before starting engine !!.

Some of the newer Briggs and Scrapiron engines dont have drain plugs.

It does vary but I managed to find my plug underneath the blade cowling, not exactly convenient but C'est la vie.

Even so Chipchopper would it not be easier and less mess to tip up the .lawnmower.
