would i be able to get any english channels on a dab radio in northern france?

You might be really lucky if you were on the coast, but otherwise I doubt it. Here's the coverage for Radio Solent, for example...

We've come to France today and our DAB reception vanished about 5 miles inland.
You'd be very lucky. We are in Dover and we occasionally get French signals intruding on our radio if the wind's in the right direction - but the signals wouldn't go that far into France.
You may want to repost this under technology, because there are different bands of DAB, and I am fairly sure that ours is not the same as theirs.

Another route would be to visit the website of your radio maker. If you are lucky and and bought a PURE radio, they can be very helpful.
I got decent DAB reception on the West of the Cotentin peninsula, south of Cherbourg. The signal would have been from Jersey.
