Extended Car Warranty Schemes
I am buying a new Skoda Roomster SV. The car carries a 3 year warranty but there is the option to extend that to extra years. Looking on this site I see that there are a number of companies offering extended warranty schemes which I assume must be insurance schemes. When I buy a fridge or washing machine I normally say no to such schemes, but a car is slightly different as we will probable hold on to this car for longer than 4-5 years. Any comments welcome.

With the Skoda Extended Warranty you pay a little more on ordering the car and the car is covered for an extra year (or two...your choice) with the full Skoda factory warranty. Given the low cost and the fact that you intend to keep the car for several years...it's a no-brainer. It's a very good deal.
david: as usual, TWR's opinion is not backed by fact or experience...this factory warranty is widely regarded as one of the best available, because it simply extends the standard three-year warranty to five years...exactly the same terms and conditions as the original warranty. This factory warranty is taken out BEFORE registration....on delivery the car's service schedule/handbook is stamped "Five- year warranty" . This is unlike other (insurance-based warranties) which are taken out as the original warranty expires, or even later.
@TWR; as usual, I'm finding it difficult to understand what you're on about! TWR, if only you had read the full question, and not just the heading, and also other the other replies....you might have noticed that both the OP's question and my reply were about extending the Skoda factory warranty and NOT about taking out an insurance-based, after-market warranty . I agree that the latter are not to be recommended, but extending the Skoda warranty to five years for £150 is a wholly different (and well worthwhile) matter.
