I know this may seem a bit strange but my seven year old can not blow his nose, he just sniffs up all the time. I have tried to instruct him, but to no avail ( the nights pass quickly in my house ha )any one else had this problem and was it resolved, many thanks in advance.
I used to do this as a child. It is important he learns because the sound of sniffing is particularly gross, and anti social! Get him to first breath through his nose (while he puts his hand over his mouth). Then do it more forcefully in and out. He can already do the in. Just try breathing in through mouth and out through nose with mouth shut. And have a hanky at the ready!!
I remember I could never blow my nose until I was about 10, I always just sniffed it up; I think it's just something one gradually learns to do. i couldn't whistle for ages other, but that suddenly came to me as well.
i thought my son was the only one, when he has a cold, which is every other week at the mo,i try to get him to blow his nose, but not a chance,he just cant do it?
Like shoelaces, I just worked it out eventually around that age as well. I just wiped otherwise and once I realised what I needed to do could blow as well. It doesn't seem something that we do naturally to me.
i think it is psychological. i think as a child i perceived that if you blew your nose too hard you could expel some of your brains so i never overcame that psychological stopper.
