You should find out about the games first, find out what machine they run on, and then buy the machine required.
If you meant "Baldur's gate", I don't think you will find that kind of game on PS2. There is one called "Baldur's gate: dark alliance", but it's an action game, so definately not the same kind of game.
I don't know about the other 2 games you mention.
To find good games, I use websites such as
www.gamerankings.com
and
www.gametab.com
They have a database of games for you to search, with various criteria, each game has a mark ( a percentage ) which is a good indication of how good the game is.
Above 85 % means you should give it a try.
I think you can search for specific game genres too..
If you really want to buy a console, you might have to go for genres your husband isn't used to. ( Consoles don't have mice, and this restricts the possibilities. )
But then why buy a console?
I found that portable consoles are much more suitable than standard consoles when living as a couple ...
