I applaud the sentence handed down to these men.

I applaud their families for turning them in.

However, I totally disagree with this statement from the family involved:

"We feel completely betrayed."

They objected to the sentence as "too long" and said they would appeal against it.

A analogy...if a turned in a member of my family whom I knew to be a rapist, I would not complain when the sentence was handed down. It's down to the courts to decide what the sentence should be, not me.

How do you feel about this?

And can anyone confirm whether I've used the word 'whom' correctly here? I literally have no idea...

who, I knew, was a rapist is correct as I knew is embedded

but you have chosen - 'I knew him to be a rapist' - accusative and infinitive
and so it is 'whom'

even mistakes have funny names and this is case-attraction
one thinks of "who" because "I" is near

Israel is not an enemy of the UK

The fact that we are neutral to Palestine makes things interesting. If names of victims and sufficient evidence came to light then they could be charged with murder.

Compare the situation with the (still unresolved) Thai beach murder case.

You can't just go to foreign countries and kill people. You have to join HM Forces if you want to do that (and, even then, only when ordered to and ROE permit it).

Actually, if they wanted a shorter sentence, they could have opted for murder or rape and then gone for the plea discount (a ridiculous concept which I only learned about recently, from the joint enterprise TV play).

Then the parents should be charged with 'perverting the course of justice' or aiding and abetting.
