milk for dogs

with easter in mind I am well aware chocolate is bad for dogs,but, what about cows milk? My dog loves cereal every now and again ( once every 2 months maybe) and now I'm hearing milk is bad for dogs. Is that true and if so, why?

By the way, when it comes to pets, we consider milk just another table scrap. Cow's milk has the sugar lactose. Dogs do not have the enzyme lactase that is necessary to digest it. That is why they often develop diarrhea or softer stools when given it. Most humans produce this digestive enzyme. Those that don't are said to suffer from milk intolerances or allergies. When you see milk or milk by-products listed as ingredients in pet foods, lactose bacteria have been used to break down the sugar into easier digestible forms. Dogs do not need fresh milk!

we are are vile, corrupt hybrid. perpetually inbred and distilled from our pure, natural, beastly roots. technological society has made us thus, diminishing our natural immunity to the things around us. this is paired with our constant pollution and perversion of all natural resources until all is chemical based and we are utterly dependent on drugs of one sort or another to be able to cope with an environment which once perfectly suited us and where we only had to be afraid of harsh weather and wild animals. now we are increasingly afraid of everything around us. dogs, as the most domesticated of our fellow creatures, have for the most part come down this road with us. my sisters farm dogs came form a random litter, live outside in makeshift shelters, live on scraps and have healthy bodies and eyes and teeth and are rarely ill. my own pedigree retrievers are pampered and cosseted by those around them, were bred under controlled conditions, and given medicine for this, innoculations for that. they are often slightly unwell, and require constant monitoring, as do many modern posh dogs. we have been their undoing. we must be punished.

My German Shepherd loved milk, she had a bowlful every single day and lived to be 14 years old, which is a great age for that breed. It obviously did her no harm whatsoever.

You can buy little cartons of milk for dogs from Asda and now Morrisons. It's goats milk but has added vitamins and glucosamine. They're 59p for a litlle carton about the size of a carton of juice. I buy them for my 13yr old lab who has arthritis. It's not going to cure her but she likes it and i do hope it does her some good!

milk is fine for them, my cocker spaniel lived til she was 16 and we gave her weetabix with warm milk every morning til the day she was put down....she loved it.

My dog has a yoghut fetish and he loves porridge. He is ten ..perfectly healthy ,still has good teeth and a lovely coat.

I think its a case of everything in moderation. A little left over from your cereal now and again won't hurt, but a big bowl full everyday might make your dog a bit loose. My puppies have goats milk, as its nearer to bitches milk in its make up than cows milk is. I sometime put a little milk (if theres a bit left in a bottle that been open a while) down for my dogs, but as there's seven of them, they only get a few licks each!

my dog (border collie) finishes off my cereal milk nearly everyday, and sometimes i pour milk into his dish for a treat. he loves it and he seems healthy enough
