3G Mobile For Elderly

I'm desperate to find a 3g capable handset for an elderly relative. I only need something that he can make phone calls with - even texts are not really required. I need a phone that would work on the 3 network (sim-free?) as the rest of the family are on 3, I've got a £10 loaded 3 sim and the payg 1-2-3 tariff is far cheaper than the other providers.

He's going to be reluctant to use the phone on vodafone for example where the cost is about 41p per minute for voice calls.

All the big -button phones are only 2g capable even the Doro etc. Is there anything out there that would fit the bill?

Why does it need to be 3G if he won't be using the smartphone functionality?

But really 3G is only needed for the internet, not phone calls.

It's not that he needs 3g hc4361. It's simply that 3 have stopped support for 2g in a lot of places in the UK, including it seems from the area he lives in. Signal is carries in the area on behalf of 3 by Orange, who apparently charge 3 a fortune to carry the signal on their behalf. The phone indicates it's using the Orange network as soon as it's switched on. As he's anxious about the signal when he's out and about in his car, I have to be pretty sure that he can get a signal wherever he is eg calling the breakdown service from his car.

According to the Sainsbury's website, the Doro 508 is 2g only.

Being 89 myself I am inclined to disagree with you. I have an iphone & ipad mini which I find much easier to use than many ''simple'' phones on the market.
