There was a basic phone (cannot remember the manufacturer) which could only send and receive calls released in Japan and it was sold out within 2 hours.
It seems most people don't need a phone with fancy gadgets these days.
I have no idea as to why, perhaps they are just reaping the profits with all this 3G, bluetooth and video camera lark.
I did a little search on CNet Asia and it found some basic mobile phones, but I've no idea if they'll be brought out over here., although they're pretty pricey.

I've googled "basic mobile phone" and there's alot of webpages to choose from. Obviously these phones might be a bit outdated (and slightly heavy) but it's worth a look. The Nokia 1100 looks like a good contender but theres others out there that could be better.
