Burglar Bill lived in the house opposite the school where I worked...when he wasn't inside.....

He had a good idea when the staff were away and it wasn't difficult for him to find out where we lived.....so we were delighted when arthritis put an end to his shenanigans....☺

We tell neighbours either side of us,and a neighbour opposite our house that we'll be away for a certain amount of time (Aussie last yr for a month.
And they always text or ring us the same to keep an eye on their houses too. Cant beat friendly neighbours.

You can't Pusskin....I've always been lucky with my neighbours.....even the ones who took in their son's friend....who turned out to be.....guess....☺

Yes I have lovely neighbours and family who are going in the house and have lots of lights on timers including Christmas ones outside - but I know that's not infallible. I think idle chat locally and at work is more of a risk than social media sites, I may be wrong.
