I know a few americans that love British chocolate and I have in the past even ordered some for them. So Hershey have managed to block imports to avoid "brand confusion" - really? Land of the free! PMSL! Will we see Bootleg chocolateers?

When you go to Southern Spain it is easy to buy a pint of British beer. Unfortunately it is terrible British beer. The expats root out and savour their inferior imported stuff and ignore the quality local stuff.
It's not meant to be funny, it's part of the UK 'culture'

People on here should respect that minority culture, after all its what you all bleat about all day. Or does it not apply to anyone not born (or have heritage) abroad?
I'm not sure that is true Gromit.

And I know Septics (real one's not ex pats) that love the UK chocolate.

.....and we are known as "whinging poms"!
Ymb,
British chocolate is better than the American stuff, so you cannot blame some American people from choosing it in preference their inferior home manufactured stuff. But that does not mean it is good. It means it is less bad.

Lindt or Milka* would be better products to import if the argument was about quality and not about nostalgia.

* Milka is now owned by Kraft, ironically.

Fair enough gromit, some of the swiss/belgian stuff is lovely but a lot of it is a bit hard core for me very high cocoa content. The US chocolate though is dire, I'm surprised that there has not been more of a public outcry!
1ozzy -probably a lot more than you considering I was born in North America lol!

// A key difference between US and UK chocolate is that much US chocolate uses milk that has undergone lipolysis, a process that partially breaks down the fatty acids in milk. The down-side is that the process releases butyric acid, one of the fatty acids present in milk. Butyric acid is the fat component responsible for the smell of parmesan cheese and baby vomit. //

Yuk!
I was so distracted by the fact that someone sees fit to refer to my countrymen as "septics"... that I forgot all about crappy chocolate.
Even I...a resident of the UK for 25+ years...did not get the clever(not) rhyming slang. I've seen the term septic before and see it as neither clever not funny...just crude and nasty.
