Why Do Programmes Have To Carry Certain Messages?

I personally thought that last nights Birds of a Feather was completely spoilt by the introduction of Sharron's health issue, and then in amongst the closing credits we got the usual "If you have been affected by blah, blah, blah...........
These days one expects this kind of thing in more serious programmes or Soaps etc, but this is a comedy aimed to amuse and relax.
I for one will not be watching part two of this story line.
